AFMX - ABQ Film & Media Experience
The Albuquerque Film & Music Experience (AFMX) is an annual interactive film & music festival held in Albuquerque, New Mexico each September. Beginning in 2013 with the participation of Robert Redford, Sibylle Szaggars-Redford, and many other special guests, AFMX has featured domestic and international movies, engaging industry panels and workshops, intimate networking events and parties, live music, and more.
The Business of Storytelling @ AFMI
"Tell me a story"! From that quintessential childlike wonder springs our innate curiosity for what comes next. Understanding how story provokes, engages, manifests, and tugs at our heartstrings is the most critical component for success in today’s marketplace for a creative producer.
In this 3-week intensive course, we will take a deep dive into the business of storytelling with former Dreamworks executive, Karen Criswell. Karen has spent the last decade honing her development philosophy for film, television, animation, and emerging new media. She has produced a variety of projects of her own including narrative, documentary, and music-inspired video art, as well as studied the craft of writing, entertainment business, and film financing.
Story is at the heart of each step of every production process from script to screen, concept to distribution, and heavily influences the strategic identification of the optimum markets and target audiences for your particular project. Don’t miss your opportunity to join us at the Albuquerque Film and Media Incubator for this informative and transformational course.
“The Business of Storytelling” includes a hybrid environment with online lectures, as well as open, interactive sessions and participatory in-person exercises designed to stretch your perception and strengthen your ability to produce high-quality, unique, and compelling projects.
We will walk through every stage of a production:
concept
development
finance
marketing
distribution
As part of the course, all students will receive a 1:1 one-hour Zoom mentoring session with Karen, good for a year after the course is completed, to support you in your next endeavor.
This course is designed to equip you with specific strategies and tools to empower you to venture forth and confidently share your stories with the world!

Soldado’s / Taos Open Mic
A stage with monitors. A sound engineer. Listening Room style. If performing your original song(s), have your name in the hat by 6:45pm (doors open at 6pm). Performance order will be in the order of how the names are drawn from the hat, and will be announced right before the 7pm start time. Number of songs per performer will depend on how many performers sign up before 7pm. Please note: you can donate via an app, but the full bar is cash only (and at bargain prices ).
